Spline Modeling Part 2

Faces from Curves (Part 2) - Make Spline Patch

An alternative to using 'Freeze', when creating Polygons from Curves, is to use 'Make Spline Patch'. This produces a segmented group of Faces which can be converted to a Sub-Patch.

Cage Tool & AutoPatcher

Use the 'Cage Tool' to create a Spline Cage. This can then be easily manipulated to adjust the flow of Splines and set the general shape of an object.

Then use AutoPatcher to convert the Splines to Polygons and begin to build up detail.

Create > Elements > Cage
Multiply > Combine > Patches > AutoPatcher

Rail Cloning

Rail Cloning, clones a Fore-Ground object to the Path of a Back-Ground Curve. It creates a clone at each Point in the Curve.

Create an Open Curve and place it in the Background Layer. Place the object to be cloned in the Foreground Layer and orientate the object to the path of the Curve.

Finally, activate the 'Rail Clone' Tool and enter your desired settings in the Popup Dialogue and click 'OK' to complete the process.

If you use the Bezier Tool to create the Curve, you may also need to select and merge Splines, using 'SHIFT + Z', before the Rail Cloning process.
